Location
Heydar Aliyev International Airport (IATA: GYD, ICAO: UBBB) is Baku’s international airport, in the Bina district, about 20 km (12 miles) north-east of the centre.
In ordinary traffic a private car covers the distance in 25 to 40 minutes to the Boulevard, Port Baku or the Flame Towers. Weather, delayed night arrivals and Formula 1 week extend that window. Briefings use a range, not a single figure.
GYD is also the private-aviation airport for Baku. Handling and the ground vehicle meet here.
VIP and VVIP
On a commercial flight, VIP typically comprises airside reception, fast-track immigration, a lounge, luggage brought forward, and a private exit to a reserved car. Named lounges on the public airport map include Salam Lounge, Absheron Lounge, Baku Club and Premium rooms in Terminal 1, and Mugam Lounge in Terminal 2. A lounge seat is not equivalent to meet and greet.
VVIP or private-terminal products, when available, further reduce public exposure. They require lead time and passport names in advance.
On a private jet, a handler meets the aircraft. Customs and security take place off the commercial floor. The chauffeur is briefed on the FBO or VIP door. If that door changes, the coordinator informs the driver.
Access is coordinated against the flight, ticket class and nationality.
Sequence
Child seats, a second luggage vehicle, a wheelchair and an officer in the same car are specified in the WhatsApp thread before departure.
- Flight number or tail, passenger names as in passports, 48 hours ahead where possible
- Assistant in place for the actual landing time, not the brochure time — we watch the inbound
- Immigration and luggage handled while you sit down
- Walk to S-Class, Maybach, Range Rover or V-Class
- Drive to the residence. Night arrivals from Dubai, Doha, Riyadh, Jeddah and Istanbul are routine. The desk is 24/7. If the aircraft is late, the car waits.
Drive times
During Formula 1 week, GYD is busiest from Wednesday night through Saturday. Inbound and outbound VIP should be booked together. Sunday 27 September 2026 is Remembrance Day, not race day.
| Drop-off | Typical private-car time from GYD | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Four Seasons Baku / Boulevard cluster | 25–40 minutes | Race week: add slack |
| Hilton / Port Baku | 25–40 minutes | Same waterfront belt |
| Fairmont Baku, Flame Towers | 25–40 minutes | Skyline hotel, different last kilometre |
| JW Marriott Absheron | 25–40 minutes | City grid |
| Absheron peninsula villas (Mardakan, Buzovna, Bilgah belt) | 35–55 minutes | Depends on the house; we time from the actual gate |
Planning windows in ordinary traffic. Peak hours, weather and F1 closures stretch them.
Information required
Flight number, date, passenger count, names as in passports, child seats, wheelchair or extra luggage, vehicle class, drop-off address or “villa TBA”, and whether armor or an officer is required. If a departure VIP is required the same week, send that flight so both ends are held.
If the party divides — for example the principal to Four Seasons and the family to a Caspian residence — two vehicles are assigned from the same door.
